Biography

Dr. Nitesh V. Chawla is the Frank M. Freimann Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame and Founding Director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society. He holds concurrent appointments in Applied and Computational Mathematics, Statistics, and Business Analytics.

An expert in AI, data science, and network science, Dr. Chawla’s research focuses on advancing the common good through interdisciplinary collaboration. His work spans fundamental algorithms and real-world applications with societal impact.

He has received numerous awards, including the IEEE CIS Outstanding Early Career Award, IBM Faculty Awards, and the 1st Source Bank Technology Commercialization Award. He is a Fellow of AAAS, AAAI, ACM, and IEEE.

Beyond academia, he co-founded Aunalytics, a data science software company, and Intrepid Phoenix, an AI-driven recovery support platform. Dr. Chawla earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of South Florida.
